Posted October 9, 2016. Update: I did eventually get compost. I wish I knew exactly how long it took, but I estimate it was roughly 2 weeks in game or so. Eventually a sprite showed up in compost bin indicating I had compost available. An empty dirt bag and a trowel was all I needed to 'harvest' it. Kuren.
Whatever your solution, I recommend Easy Corpse Move (unless you go with a mod that automatically gets rid of/moves corpses). I definitely wouldn't recommend eating it raw though.. Honestly I wouldn't recommend eating it cooked either. But of the two options I'd definitely go with cooked if you wanna continue living.
